100.000th installation of the license-free LibreOffice office suite

July 23, 2014 | Schweinfurt

The IT company bb-net from Schweinfurt recently carried out the 100.000th installation of the license-free office suite LibreOffice on its completely renovated hardware. "As far as we know, we are the only professional IT processor who has this highly suitable combination in our range," reports bb-net managing director Michael Bleicher.

His company buys large batches of used business IT equipment from companies, authorities and leasing companies - exclusively from brand manufacturers such as Dell, Fujitsu, HP and Lenovo. In a quality-assured process, they are prepared for resale at the company's headquarters in Schweinfurt. In this way, bb-net brings more than 4.000 PCs, notebooks, tablets and displays back into the product cycle in a standardized high quality. The associated brand name reflects the claim of bb-net: tecXL - technology like new. The business concept, which has been tried and tested for almost 20 years, pays off for customers at a purchase price that is up to 70 percent lower than that of new goods. In addition, valuable resources are conserved - in line with environmental protection.

Bleicher has been cooperating with “The Document Foundation” for almost three years. The organization, founded in 2010, develops and maintains the free open source office suite LibreOffice. It offers six applications for document creation and data processing - from word processing to spreadsheets and drawing programs to the database module. The free software package is free in all respects: free to download, free to use and free to distribute. LibreOffice is fully compatible with the programs of the major commercial office providers.

"On delivery of our completely overhauled hardware - in addition to licensed versions of Windows and Microsoft Essentials as well as all the usual drivers - LibreOffice is also installed," explains Michael Bleicher. "A program package that not only end users but also business customers appreciate." As an example, he cites his own company: bb-net, with over 40 employees, uses LibreOffice on half of its computer workstations.

"Whether private individuals or business people - many of the users who want to achieve a price advantage by buying refurbished used computers also like to save costs on software licenses," says Michael Bleicher, describing the motivation that makes the "inexpensive double" a model for success.
