The Schweinfurt refurbisher is aware of its responsibility for the climate and the environment. By processing used IT, environmental protection has been part of the company's DNA for many years. The “technology like new” products with the quality seal, tecXL, are already climate-positive.
“Through our mission to process used IT and thereby give it a second life 19 million kilograms CO2 Equivalents in 2019 saved, which would have resulted from the entire new production of 81.000 IT devices, ”says bb-net managing director Michael Bleicher.
The next logical step was the inevitable CO2 Offsetting emissions that arise directly from the company in order to be able to counteract climate change even more effectively.
Clear climate strategy: avoid, reduce, compensate
With the help of targeted measures, bb-net avoids CO2 Impact and reduce environmental pollution more and more. Only in the last step does it compensate for unavoidable emissions with trustworthy climate protection certificates. The Schweinfurt specialist has been validating the possibilities of minimizing environmental pollution and constantly optimizing products and actions for almost 25 years. He achieves this through a comprehensive sustainability concept, a large number of environmental projects and the next big step, the unavoidable CO2 Footprint, offset by climate certificates.
Certification as a climate-neutral company
The climate impact was determined by Fokus Zukunft GmbH & Co. KG: The CO2-Footprint is 328 tons of CO2 equivalent pollutants per year. That's only 5,56 tons of CO per employee2E. This is a very low value for the industry. To illustrate: On average, a German causes around 11,6 tons of CO2E per year through their lifestyle. Most of the environmental pollution occurs through freight transport with 272,7 tons of CO2E. Parcel shipping is voluntarily offset by participating in the DHL GoGreen program. The employee position is a very encouraging figure. This data conceals the commutes of the employees, their business trips as well as the necessary consumables in production and office. Mathematically, this is only 97 kilograms per employee and year!
Emissions compensation according to the Kyoto Protocol
Greenhouse gases are evenly distributed in the atmosphere. That is why it makes sense to avoid emissions where the costs are lowest. In addition, projects in emerging and developing countries help improve the economic, social and ecological situation and support the implementation of the United Nations' sustainability goals. For emerging and developing countries, emissions trading is a key driver for the transfer of clean technologies and sustainable economic development. On the basis of the values determined and by purchasing a corresponding amount of climate certificates, the company was made climate neutral.
The Karcham Wantoo project on the Sutlej River in India
The Government of India and Himachal Pradesh (GOHP) have identified the Sutlej River as an important source of hydropower and have initiated hydropower projects along the river and its tributaries. The Karcham Wangtoo hydropower project is part of an overall development plan proposed by the GOHP for the potential of the Sutlej catchment area. The project is being developed and implemented by Jaypee Karcham Hydro Corporation Limited to help alleviate acute power shortages.
Climate neutral is “only” a partial goal
Bb-net media GmbH has already achieved important ecological goals in recent years. However, the company will not rest on this success. The aim is to get a little better every day and to make an appropriate contribution to our environment. Some of the goals set for 2020 are the reduction and reduction of print materials or the use of 100% biodegradable packaging tape for closing cardboard boxes. In the first quarter of the year, up to 1% of this could already be implemented.
A website was set up specifically for all goals, projects and initiatives to provide interested people and partners with the latest information.
